The first person to turn his eyes to the sky with new eyes and with the help of a new instrument he had perfected, the telescope, was Galileo Galilei.
When we look up at the sky, almost all of us know what we are looking at: stars, planets and celestial movements. The universe is still mysterious and full of surprises today, but it was even more so in past centuries for those who looked at it with eyes disturbed by beliefs and superstitions.
MISSION
The exhibition focuses on Galilean iconography and the story of the Pisan scientist’s life.
Contains selected objects from the largest collection in the world dedicated to the image of Galileo Galilei.
The exhibition tells, in a compelling and at the same time highly scientific journey, how the face of Galileo Galilei, icon of free thought and the scientific method, went from being celebrated in the European courts of the 17th century to a Coca-Cola bottle cap.
